Is it possible to stop keeping Christmas? Yes it is: tens of thousands of Christians the world over have already done so. Believe me, and I can speak from experience, you, your family and children will be in NO way deprived. As a matter of fact, you stand to gain immensely by NOT celebrating christmas.
What about the children ? I can tell you that they are the least
problem. They'll understand faster than you think. Besides you no
longer need to tell them all those lies about Santa Claus visiting kids with presents for good boys
and girls. Just tell them the truth: that christmas is not a
festival the Almighty wants Christians to keep and that they will get
their presents on their own birthdays. But remember this : the best present a kid can ever have is strong marriage !How about my fellow Christian friends ? No doubt they will be offended, just as Jesus offended many by not compromising with the truth, hence He was called the 'rock of offense'. Many will simply hear your appeal and although they may admit that its not Biblical, will find it extremely hard to stop observing such a 'merry' festival. Others will defend themselves and question your position. For those that say, "I do it to the Lord," you may respond with Deuteronomy 12:29-32. If they say, "Romans 14:5-6 allows each person the right to holidays," remind them that those were Jewish days from Moses' Law, not pagan feasts of worship.
Most christians have been brought up believing christmas to be of God. Be patient with them. Give them time and in the meantime, remember that the greatest testimony is with your daily life...The greater your daily character, the more credible your doctrine and practice. Persuade them to consider the history and origin of christmas through books, videos and articles on this site or from other sources such as encyclopedias, libraries etc . And continue to be friends with them especially when you are ridiculed ( which will definitely happen.) Do not try to persuade them to stop celebrating christmas. Instead give your reasons for not observing it anymore.
For some cases, make an appeal to the right of an individual to worship God according to his own conscience. Remind them that you allow them this freedom, and you are simply asking the same for yourself as well. Explain that to celebrate this feast has become a matter of conscience for you.
The best time to discuss about chirstmas is October. You may want to lump Halloween together with Christmas since most Believers have no problem seeing haloween as un Christian. You can also show them that christmas is similar to haloween as both of these festivals have no Biblical support. By choosing October to inform them, you can present the truth objectively before the 'christmas spirit' sets in, making it impossible for most people to reason, as most christians are under a spell they don't even realize.
